A True Women's Probiotic

It takes more than just calling a probiotic formula “for women” to be true probiotic for women. Many women’s formula products do not contain any documented strains for this use or even label their product using recognized strain designations. Jarro-Dophilus® Women is the only women’s probiotic containing the four predominant vaginal strains isolated from the vaginal tract of healthy women.*

Clinical Validation of the Astarte® Blend

Vaginal microflora is a complex and dynamic organization that supports a layered defense system and is dominated by only several Lactobacilli in approximately 70% of women. Jarro-Dophilus® Women is an important development in women’s health because it uniquely contains the four patented and clinically documented Astarte strains, which are the actual predominant species found in the vaginal tract of healthy women. Multiple, high-quality clinical studies have demonstrated that the strains in Astarte® are an effective choice for vaginal health.

What Is a Healthy Vaginal Microbiome?

The composition of the vaginal microbiota is indicative of vaginal health, and should consist of a preponderance of Lactobacilli. The lactic acid produced by Lactobacilli creates an acidic environment, a key factor in preventing vaginal microflora disruptions.* In cases where Lactobacilli are found in lower numbers or are absent, it is more likely for a woman to experience discomfort or more severe symptoms.*

Are Vaginal Probiotics Effective via Oral Intake?

Specific probiotic strains have been shown to influence the vaginal microbiota, even when taken orally. Bacterial migration from the colon to the vagina occurs naturally, as evidenced by the translocation to the vagina of the Astarte® strains after oral intake.

Strains Matter™

Strain designation is important for identifying the specific probiotic in a product, the benefits of the probiotic, and what the count should be. A strain identifier can be a unique letter and number code that follows the genus (Lactobacillus) and species (crispatus). Typically, looking up a strain in Pubmed.gov or a general search engine will bring up all the studies associated with it.

Avoid probiotics that are not strain identified; you cannot be assured of their effectiveness. Think of it this way: Asking for Lactobacillus rhamnosus is like asking for “some” cheese, while asking for Lactobacillus rhamnosus LbV 96 is like asking for Pappillion Roquefort.

A picture that breaks down the genus, species, and strain identification number in an overall strain name. The example shown uses Lactobacillus rhamnosus LbV 88. In this case, Lactobacillus is the genus, rhamnosus is the species, and LbV 88 is the strain identification
